Wow, that was challenging. As a facilitator, I pushed past ego-bits of perfectionism and high-expectations of myself and what I present to the world. I had to face the truth of my imperfections and my self-doubts straight-on and they were not pretty, nor welcoming. As a participant, I felt disillusionment, lack of motivation, disheartening moments, annoyance at my own questions, and a disinterest in responding. I was determined to be a full participant in this challenge, unlike other programs I've designed, for this very reason --to understand what it's like and put myself through both the growth and the struggle. Turns out, it's hard and unpleasant and very worthwhile. As a facilitator, I had the opportunity to practice gentleness, calmness, and patience. I let go of so many bits of perfectionism and let myself bask in reminders of successes. As a participant, I practiced the art of self-care through struggle. I tested my limits of my motivations and won. I allowed myself time during my commute to reflect on questions and areas of my life I would not have acknowledged or reflected on otherwise. I took breaks and powered through. I taught myself resilience and the power of knowledge.
Through this challenge I had the opportunity to watch many of you grow. Not from responding to the questions, but from taking on something new, from being part of a different form of community. Whether you reached out to 1 person or 100, whether you responded to 1 question or every days', you were successful. I admire your courage. I learnt a great deal from these last 30 days; a great deal about myself, about how to make this challenge better (from the get-go, so many wonderful suggestions and insights! I look forward to improving the next one greatly), and about the power of others. I was consistently inspired by your responses to each other and dedication to persevering through the slog of self-reflection. I am grateful to have taken this journey with all of you and I encourage you to reach out to me and to each other to continue challenging and supporting one another in your journeys of personal growth and connection. Thank you for sharing yourself. If you are interested in carrying on this conversation:
